RANDY KELLER FIGHTING HEART AWARD

Randy Keller played second base for Tascosa High School with the scrappiness and determination that grew out of his love for the game of baseball. Randy was an outstanding student and athlete and was selected by his teammates to receive the Tascosa Fighting Heart Award in 1992 following his junior season.

Randy was killed in an automobile accident on December 11, 1992, two months away from opening his senior baseball season at Tascosa. In an effort to keep Randy’s spirit alive, and help contribute to the college education of an Amarillo baseball player, the Randy Keller Fighting Heart Baseball Scholarship was established in his honor in the spring of 1993. Annually, a senior baseball player from one of the four high schools in Amarillo, after being interviewed by the selection committee, is chosen to receive the prestigious $20,000 scholarship.

The Fighting Heart Award, by its name, is presented to a player who plays with intensity and a fighting determination. The player to receive this award has demonstrated these traits consistently, whether during practice or in a game. During the long and demanding hours of practice, he worked hard at every phase of the game to improve each part of his play.
